The size of ski you should ride depends on several factors, including your height, weight, skiing ability, preferred terrain, and skiing style. Here are some general guidelines to help you choose the right size ski:

  1. Height and weight: Generally, taller and heavier skiers need longer skis to support their weight and provide stability. Shorter and lighter skiers may prefer shorter skis for better maneuverability.
  2. Skiing ability: If you are a beginner, you may want to start with shorter skis that are easier to turn and control. Intermediate and advanced skiers may prefer longer skis that can handle higher speeds and more challenging terrain.
  3. Preferred terrain: If you primarily ski on groomed runs, you may want shorter skis that are more agile and easier to turn. If you prefer off-piste skiing or powder, longer skis may be better for floating on top of the snow and providing stability in deeper snow.
  4. Skiing style: If you like to make short, quick turns, shorter skis may be more suitable. If you prefer making longer, sweeping turns, longer skis may be better.

As a general rule of thumb, the length of your skis should be somewhere between your chin and the top of your head, but this can vary depending on the factors mentioned above. It's a good idea to consult with us here in-store to help you choose the right size ski for your needs.

The size of the snowboard you should choose depends on several factors, including your weight, height, riding style, and skill level. As a general rule of thumb, a good starting point for snowboard sizing is to choose a board that comes up to somewhere between your chin and nose.

Here are some general guidelines for snowboard sizing based on rider weight:

  • If you weigh less than 45 kilograms, a board between 130-135 cm may be appropriate.
  • If you weigh between 45-54 kilograms, a board between 135-140 cm may be appropriate.
  • If you weigh between 54-68 kilograms, a board between 140-145 cm may be appropriate.
  • If you weigh between 68-82 kilograms, a board between 145-155 cm may be appropriate.
  • If you weigh between 82-95 kilograms, a board between 155-165 cm may be appropriate.
  • If you weigh over 95 kilograms, a board between 160-170 cm may be appropriate.

Again, these are just general guidelines, and it's important to consider other factors as well. If you are a beginner, you may want a shorter board that is easier to maneuver. If you plan on doing a lot of freeriding or backcountry riding, you may want a longer board for added stability and float. If you are unsure it’s a good idea to consult with us here at Alpine Beach for personalized advice on selecting the right size board for you.

As a beginner, it's important to choose a surfboard that is stable, easy to paddle, and forgiving. Here are a few options to consider:

  1. Longboard: A longboard surfboard is typically over 8 feet long and has a wide, round nose, making it stable and easy to balance on. They're great for catching small waves and learning the basics.
  2. Funboard: A funboard surfboard is typically between 6 and 8 feet long and has a rounded nose and a wider tail. They're a good compromise between a longboard and a shortboard, offering stability and maneuverability.
  3. Soft-top: Soft-top surfboards have a foam core and a soft top surface, making them forgiving and safe for beginners. They're also typically less expensive than traditional fiberglass surfboards.
  4. Mini-mal: A mini-mal surfboard is a smaller version of a longboard, typically around 7 feet long. They're easier to maneuver than a longboard but still offer stability for beginners.

Ultimately, the type of surfboard you choose will depend on your skill level, the conditions you'll be surfing in, and your personal preferences.

Skateboard prices varies from $120 up to $300. Size, design and materials used to make the skateboard is what drives the cost of certain boards up, generally cruisers will be a little more expensive than your traditional trick deck.

When considering how to choose a skateboard, the main question you should ask yourself is, what type of riding will you be doing and what will be the main purpose of the board. The size of skateboard a person should ride depends on their height, weight, and skating style. Generally, the width of the skateboard deck is the most important factor in determining the right size for a skater.

For street skating, a deck width of 7.5 inches to 8 inches is suitable for smaller riders or those who prefer technical tricks. For riders with larger feet or those who prefer more stability, a wider deck between 8.25 inches to 8.5 inches is recommended.

For ramp or transition skating, wider decks between 8.5 inches to 9 inches are preferred, providing more stability for aerial tricks and landings.

For cruising or transportation, longboards or cruiser boards with a deck length of around 32 inches to 40 inches are more suitable, offering more stability and comfort for longer rides.

It is always recommended to try out different sizes of skateboards to find the right fit for your personal preference and style.

There are several styles of skateboards, each designed for specific types of skating.

  1. Street Skateboards: These boards are designed for street skating and technical tricks such as flips, grinds, and slides. They are typically smaller in size with a narrower deck, ranging from 7.5 inches to 8.25 inches.
  2. Vert Skateboards: These boards are designed for vert skating, also known as ramp skating, which involves skating on half-pipes or bowls. They have a wider deck, ranging from 8.25 inches to 9 inches, providing more stability for aerial tricks and landings.
  3. Longboards: These boards are designed for cruising and transportation, providing a smooth ride and more stability at higher speeds. They have a longer deck, ranging from 32 inches to 40 inches, and larger, softer wheels for a comfortable ride.
  4. Cruiser Skateboards: These boards are designed for casual cruising, providing a blend of features from both street and longboards. They typically have a wider deck, ranging from 8 inches to 9 inches, and larger, softer wheels for a smooth ride.
  5. Old School Skateboards: These boards are a throwback to the 70s and 80s, featuring a wide, flat deck with a pointed nose and tail. They are typically used for cruising and carving, and are not designed for technical tricks.

Ultimately, the choice of skateboard style will depend on the skater's personal preference and the type of skating they plan to do.
