How to Choose the Right Women’s Wetsuit

Selecting the perfect wetsuit can feel overwhelming, but focusing on a few key elements makes it much easier:

Fit

Wetsuit sizing doesn’t always match everyday clothing sizes. Use your measurements or try a few styles on — the suit should feel snug, as neoprene relaxes slightly in the water. A good fit reduces flushing and keeps you comfortable during longer sessions.

Material & Thickness

Modern neoprene is warmer, stretchier and more durable than ever. Thickness is typically shown as two numbers (e.g. 3/2mm) representing the body and limb thickness. Thicker suits offer greater insulation for cold-water surfing, while thinner suits are ideal for warmer climates and maximum flexibility.

Seam Construction

Construction affects both warmth and durability.

Glued and blind-stitched seams help prevent water entry, making them great for cooler conditions.

Flatlock or overlock stitching is more breathable and suits warmer-water activities.

Type of Suit

Women’s wetsuits come in several styles:

  • Vests: sleeved tops without legs
  • Springsuits: short-sleeved or long-sleeved with short legs
  • Steamers: full-length, long-sleeved suits for cooler conditions

Choosing the right one depends on your sport, water temperature and how much coverage you prefer.

Price & Performance

As with any technical gear, you’ll generally get what you pay for. Entry-level suits are great for occasional use, while mid- and high-end suits provide better warmth, stretch, durability and additional performance features.
